Understanding Abuse & Finding Support

Understanding when abuse is happening is crucial for several reasons, as it allows individuals, communities, and institutions to address and prevent harm. Here is some key information on how to spot abuse, and how The Crime Connection can help.

What long term effects does childhood trauma cause?

Detachment issues, dissociation, low self-worth or lack of values, cognitive issues, substance abuse, anger issues, PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), depression, and anxiety.

Cleveland Clinic also reports on cancer, diabetes, heart problems, obesity, and stroke.

What is considered domestic violence?

Domestic abuse happens in so many different forms: physiological, physical, financial and sexual.

Some examples of an unhealthy relationship are cutting you off from friends and family, calling or texting you non-stop, calling you names and putting you down, will not let you leave on your own terms, hurts you physically, financially, sexually, or emotional/mentally.

Love should never hurt or feel “off”. Always trust your gut!
